When You Have Your New Hearing Aids

What You Get
Normally each hearing aid or pair of hearing aids comes with a text book size case. In that case are usually a one or two smaller pocket sized cases, owners manual, cleaning tool(s), a four pack of batteries, and the tube and tip. Once you insert the battery in the hearing aid it will be ready to wear.

The hearing aid will come with a manufacturers warranty and a money back period. The warranty varies from one manufacturer to the next but is listed in detail on the hearing aid’s website information page.

The hearing aid will also come with a money back period, for Precise Hearing it is 60 days from the date of shipment unless otherwise noted.

Getting Them In Your Ears
You have your hearing aids, batteries have been installed, now what? Remembering one simple rule will help start the process:

Red Right ---and whatever is left goes in the left ear. Hearing aids are color coded to help us quickly determine which hearing aid goes where. Right ones have a red marking and left ones have a blue marking.

Now hang the proper hearing aid over your ear. Then push the tube end with the soft tip as deeply into the ear canal as is comfortably possible. For most people this means the tube is flush up against the skin of the outer ear just above the opening of the ear canal. Smooth the retainer piece flat into the cup of your ear directly behind your ear canal opening. This retainer can be trimmed if needed but call for help with determining how much to trim.

First Experiences
Most people that hear through hearing aids for the first time find the sound to be a little loud but not uncomfortable. In addition, with high frequency loss things can sound as though you turned down the base and turned up the treble which is pretty much what has happened. Give it some time, even a few days, and sound will become natural to you as you enjoy hearing the world around you clearly without straining. Relax and enjoy the sounds of life.
